Linda Gosling:

Linda’s hometown is Festus, MO.  She is a native Missourian and spent a few years in Albuquerque, NM as a child.  She attended Jefferson College in Hillsboro, MO and currently works in the accounting department at N.B.West Contracting Co., in St. Louis, MO.   Linda has 2 daughters, ages 26 and 30, and a 20 year old son.   She is grandmother to 3, ages 3, 5, and 8. She says “being a grandma is a sport in itself, and if you knew my 5 year old grandson you would understand.”

Linda says, “As a young girl I was very shy and introverted.  I didn’t participate in sports much, no team sports at all.  Now, as an adult, looking back I realize just how much I missed out on.    So, as a Mother, I made sure to encourage and facilitate the opportunity for my children to participate in sports.  All three were very athletic and participated in many sports, traditional team sports and the often overlooked sports like dance (individual and dance team) and cheerleading.   As a result of this, I spent many years cheering from the sidelines and running ‘Mom’s Taxi’; those were my athletic endeavors.  I still spend most of my time with family.  I also enjoy walks at the park with my dogs, swimming, ice skating, horseback riding, and tennis.”

Linda adds, “I am happy to serve on the Scholarship Selection Committee.    I completely support the mission set forth by the Foundation and I would like to play a role in rewarding hardworking young women and helping them achieve their goals.”

 Nance Wernes:

NWAA is proud to have Nance on our Scholarship Selection Committee.  Her knowledge of sports and her enthusiasm in promoting women's sports brings an impressive resume to NWAA.

Nance Wernes is a life-long athlete having earned nine varsity letters in high school and played volleyball at the Collegiate Level.  Athletics continued to be a large part of her life after college, and in 2004 she founded the Kansas City Storm to give women in and around Kansas City a rare opportunity: to play tackle football.  In three short years the Storm established themselves as a worthy opponent and in 2007 won their division crown!

Nance has supported girl athletes as a youth softball and basketball coach.  As an advocate of women’s sports in Kansas City, Nance started the Kansas City Women’s Sports Association providing a structure for all adult women’s sports in the area:  rugby, football, roller derby, lacrosse and swimming, to unite and work together.  In addition, she has launched her own not-for-profit entity – SupportHer with Sports to promote women’s health, esteem, and well-being with sports.
